I have tried linking to sites that are both of good content and content that had nothing to do with my site. I didnt see much of a difference in alexis ranking when this happened. Finding referrals

I have recently tried finding referrals on the web, not finding it too easy just yet. I see that doing blogs and posting in forums is a great idea. I am going to start looking for places to blog and find friends and in return get referrals for my website.
